 PRESIDENTS REPORT 2016/2017 SEASON

It has been a privilege to be President of the Coffs Harbour Swimming Club for the 2016/2017 season.  Our club has gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months with a record membership of 300 people. This is incredible for a regional country swimming club. The overwhelming support and effort of our committee and club members is why Coffs Harbour Swimming Club is such a success. The attitude and commitment of all our swimmers is commendable with outstanding results throughout the season. Congratulations to everyone. I hope that you are as proud to be a part of Coffs Harbour Swimming Club as I am.

This year we have received sponsorships and club grants to the value of $13,000. I would like to thank our Major Season Sponsors, C.ex Group, Aliance Australia, Onesteel, Cutlers Tyrepower, Coffs Harbour War Memorial Olympic Pool, FM Glenn Constructions, Eastland Kitchens, SGA & Fast Tread. The generosity of our sponsors has ensured that Coffs Harbour Swimming Club has had a successful season. Also, I would like to thank AMart Sports, Yogurtland and the Big Banana for their continued support during the season with Swimmer of the week and achievement awards.

Our timing system has been in use for the past 2 seasons, we have organised new club shirts, hooded towels and hoodies for our members to purchase, making Coffs Harbour stand out when at carnivals and major meets. The club has also purchased 2 new lime green banners (that match our shirts), 5 new lime green gazebo’s, 5 lime green walls and 8 new stop watches for use at swimming club nights and swim club carnvials. Again, this year the committee voted to pay the cost of every swimmers & parents entry fee to the pool on a Friday nights, a cost saving to families. Coffs Harbour Club caps were also included in the membership (apart from the Junior Dolphins Program) We also joined the Junior Dolphins Program to help promote swimming to children 7 and under.

Once again, we thank Swimplex Facilities for their assistance throughout this season, what can I say, the support that we receive from Mark & Kerri Anne along with their staff is unfathomable and certainly makes things run seamlessly in particular during the running of Coffs Spring Sprint Carnival, Swimming North Coast Championships and Optus Junior Dolphins Day. We support Simplex Facilities and hope they are successful in their tender to manage the Coffs Harbour Olympic Pool.

Welcome to all our new members, existing members and our junior dolphin members. Swimming NSW put a new program in place this season to entice our youngster to come along and join a swimming club. Coffs Harbour has about 30 Junior Dolphin members – an outstanding achievement.

Coffs Harbour Swimming Club had a busy year, hosting our own carnival in October The Coffs Spring Sprint (which for some of our club members was their first swim club carnival) It was a great day of swimming for everyone. North Coast Swimming Championships were again held this year at Coffs Harbour and our swimmers swam well with lots of records and PB’s. In February, an Optus Junior Dolphins Day was held with Olympians Matt Abood & Taylor Corry visiting Coffs Harbour.  These events are a great opportunity for the club to raise funds to help cover the costs throughout the season, I would like to thank every person involved in running these events, without your assistance and support events like these would disappear from our calendar. They help our community and our club.

Again , this year we sponsored the Coffs Clarence CANDO Cancer Trust with their annual Rottnest Island Channel Swim – hopefully next year we can get a few more Coffs Harbour Swimming Club teams involved in this worthwhile charity event.

We thank Marlene McLennan for her continuous support of the club, each week she bakes the best cupcakes on the north coast. You are an unbelievable contributor to our club and we sincerely thank you for your yummy contributions.

A sad goodbye and heartfelt thank you to Allana Matthews for your assistance and support of Coffs Harbour Swimming Club over the past years. You have done so much for our club and we are certainly going to miss you.

Thank you to the committee for all their assistance during the season. You have done a wonderful job and should be proud to be associated with Coffs Harbour Swimming Club.

For the upcoming 2017-2018 season please get involved with your club, don’t sit on the sidelines thinking this could be done different, every person on the committee is approachable, also please nominate to take a position on the executive committee or general committee, no club can operate otherwise!! The more people involved the lighter the load becomes.

So once again I thank the people that continuously give their time to helping this club to grow and become the success that it is. I also thank every parent that gets up & helps on club nights, whether it is time keeping, marshalling to doing the bbq, we rely heavily upon this assistance. If you are not sure what to do please ask, the tasks are not difficult & there is always someone willing to show you how to do it.

Thank you and happy swimming.

 Yours sincerely
